Introductory Message from Rajnesh D. Singh, IPv6 Forum Pacific Islands Founding President

rajneshWith the continuing evolution and rapid growth of the Internet, IP address space has become a major issue. Vendors and Users alike are calling for ubiquitous end-to-end networks. IPv6 is the solution, and the way forward for the Next Generation Internet.

At PICISOC's PacINET 2006 conference in Samoa, strong endorsement was received from various sectors represented (private, public and NGO) for the setup of an IPv6 Special Interest Group (SIG). The primary objective of the SIG is the promotion of IPv6 adoption in the Pacific Islands region through dissemination of information and education. This was the region's first real concerted effort towards IPv6 promotion.

Setting up the IPv6 Forum's Pacific Islands Chapter was the next logical step in order to enhance wider collaboration with the global IPv6 community. The relationship with the global IPv6 Forum will allow us access to a wealth of resources to assist us in promoting IPv6 and its benefits.

We look forward to working with key stakeholders from governments, industry, regional organisations and civil society to work on an IPv6 roadmap and vision for Pacific Islands countries. With the recent adoption by Pacific Islands leaders of the Pacific Plan and its associated Digital Strategy, IPv6 could be, and will be, a critical component of the communications infrastructure necessary to support a true Digital Pacific.

Membership in the IPv6 Forum Pacific Islands is open to all interested individuals and we look forward to building a local IPv6 community and holding the first Pacific Islands IPv6 Summit.

Best wishes,

Rajnesh D. Singh
